Description

Imaged on the nights of Sept 2-8, Sept 9 and Sept 18, 2020. Plan to collect additional imaging data centered on Melotte 15 with my C11 Edge and publish separately.

The Heart Nebula (IC 1805, Sharpless 2-190) is an emission nebula that lies within the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way in Cassiopeia. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1787. The nebula's glow comes from the radiation emitted from the open cluster near its center known as Collinder 26 or Melotte 15. This cluster contains several bright stars nearly 50 times the mass of our Sun along with many more dim stars that are only a fraction of our Sun's mass. The Heart Nebula is located about 7500 light years from Earth.
